A member of the Burseraceae family, myrrh is native to the northern Africa and southwestern Asia. Our Galbanum CO2 extract is grown in Ethiopia. It is also known as gum myrrh. Super-critical CO2 extraction is achieved using the trees' gum resinoid. Our Myrrh extract is a light golden, clear liquid.
Used as an ancient medicine in both Eastern and Western cultures, myrrh continues to employed as a curative for gum disease, gingivitis and mouth ulcers. Tom's of Maine uses myrrh in one of its toothpaste formulas.
Myrrh is also used in perfuming, valued for its warm, sweet, almost licorice-y note. It blends well with other resins such as frankincense and Styrax benzion (gum benzoin) and other woods, such sandalwood, oakmoss, patchouli.
